I had a 5 gallon propane gas fryer and wanted something where I could set the temperature and not have to worry about it being too high or too low. I was tired always messing around with my fryer trying to keep the temperature right. I thought this was the ticket. It takes about 45 minutes to heat the oil up. I made a 12 pound turkey. The turkey sits in a bucket breast side up that you lower into the fryer. This is actually nice not having to hang it on a rack. It also does not go very deep into the oil so you don't have the overwhelming fear that if the turkey falls into the oil when you are pulling it out you will die. In any event, I set the fryer to the highest setting per the manual which was 375. When it was completely heated up I got my super accurate temperature probe oil and put it in the oil. It was 350 degrees not 375. As others have recommended I let my turkey sit out for 30 minutes to warm up some. You might want to not let it sit out but rather toss in a preheated oven or microwave it for a few minutes to heat up. I placed the turkey in the fryer and the oil dropped to 260. I measured the oil temperature for the entire cooking time and it was never able to get any higher than 260, far from the 375 that you normally shoot for. I used their cooking guide of 4 minutes per pound but after checking the turkey it still wasn't done. I gave it ten more minutes and then it was fully cooked. Now here's the difference between this fryer and a gas fryer. The turkey was not like a fried turkey at all. It was like an oven baked turkey. The turkey was moist, but the skin and various parts weren't crispy and nowhere near that fried flavor you shoot for. It tasted just like a baked turkey. That was sad. I mean the turkey was good but it wasn't a fried turkey. Not sure what to do with this thing now. It's definitely not a turkey fryer. More like a very big deep fryer for french fries and the like.
There are some people giving this good reviews for turkeys but my guess is that they never used a propane fryer. I'm going back to propane.

We liked the electric turkey fryer. It's designed to be used inside and it comes apart for easy cleaning. Automatic temp control - you just calculate the minutes per pound cooking time.

The Fryer is Awesome!!! It fries up alot more food than any of the ones I found at any of the stores around here. It fries up everything real nice, and has an easy access panel in the back that stores the power cord, and theres a little drain nozzle back there too, that makes changing the oil very easy.
